What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept Discover Card, Master Card, Visa and American Express, as well as cash and travellers checks.
Do you cruise in inclement weather?
We typically cruise rain or shine. Our lower deck is enclosed and climate controlled so you’re not going to get wet. If conditions are dangerous or rains are heavy enough that we have visibility issues, we do call everyone who has a reservation to let them know of the cancellation.
What should I wear?
Casual attire is what is most commonly worn on our cruise.
Can we take pictures?
Yes! You are welcome to take as many pictures as you like, and we love to see them online at: #NavalBaseCruises. We do ask that you not use large zoom lenses at the naval station.
Can you guarantee that we’re going to see specific ships on our cruise?
The naval base is very active, and because of that we cannot guarantee that a certain ship will be in at any certain time. The ships do come and go frequently, and each cruise is a little bit different. Ships that you see on our 11am cruise may not be in for our 2pm cruise and vice versa. However, Naval Station Norfolk is the world’s largest naval base and there are always quite a few ships in to see.
Do you only see the naval base on the cruise?
No, while Naval Station Norfolk is the world’s largest naval base and is the main focus of the tour, you will also see the battle site of the Monitor and Merrimack, Norfolk shipyards and drydocks, the southern coal piers, old Fort Norfolk, Craney Island, Portsmouth Marine Terminal, and the battleship Wisconsin.
How long will it take me to get there?
From Virginia Beach we are approximately 25 minutes away. If you’re located in the city of Hampton you’re approximately 45 minutes away. The city of Newport News is 1 hour away. And if you’re coming from Williamsburg give yourself 1 and a half hours to reach us.
I get seasick, is the cruise ride rough?
No, we cruise in the Elizabeth River and the cruise is generally a very smooth ride. If it is an exceptionally blustery day outside the ride may get a little bumpy. If you’re still concerned about seasickness the Banana Pier giftshop at Nauticus does sell motion sickness medicine.
Is there a written program with the cruise route and information about the ships we’re going to see?
Due to the busy nature of the port and Naval Station Norfolk the sights are constantly changing.
Will we be able to see everything from the lower cabin?
Yes, the lower cabin has exceptionally large windows. There is nothing that you’ll see from the upper deck that you won’t be able to see from the lower cabin.
Will we be able to hear the narration?
Yes. The Victory Rover is equipped with a state of the art sound system and you will be able to hear the entire live narration from the captain.
How many passengers can you take?
We are coast guard certified and inspected to carry 145 passengers.
Is the boat wheelchair accessible?
Yes, we are accessible for standard sized non-electric wheelchairs.
Can I bring a stroller on board?
Yes, strollers are welcome.
Is there heating/AC on board?
Yes, our main cabin is enclosed and climate controlled with large windows for sightseeing.
Can we bring food on board?

Is handicap parking available?
There are a few spaces available in front of the Nauticus museum. If those spaces are full, closest parking is the Town Point garage on Main street, directly across from Nauticus. You are more than welcome to drop someone off in front of the museum before going to park your car.
I have a camper or a vehicle with a large roof rack and am unable to park in a garage, where can I go?
If you are unable to park in a local garage the only available parking is Harbor Park. It is outdoor parking at our local baseball stadium and is approximately 1 mile away from our location. There is easy access from Harbor Park back to downtown Norfolk, you can take the tide train from the stadium to the nearby McArthur mall, or you can call F.R.E.D. (free ride every day) 757-478-7233 for transportation from the stadium directly to the Nauticus museum.
Does the combo ticket include one of the guided tours of the battleship Wisconsin?
No. The combo ticket includes general admission to the Nauticus museum and the battleship Wisconsin. This includes all three floors of the museum, and the main deck and ward room of the battleship. If you wish to take a guided tour of the battleship that includes the interior of the ship, that ticket can be purchased for an additional fee at the Nauticus museum. The guided tours are limited and you can only purchase that ticket from Nauticus.
Does the combo ticket have to be done in one day?
Yes. All aspects of the combo ticket must be completed on the day of purchase. It is recommended you give yourself 2 hours to enjoy the Nauticus museum and an additional 1 hour to walk the battleship Wisconsin. Our cruise is an additional 2 hours. Keep in mind that Nauticus is closed on Mondays except during the summer.
