OFF THE COAST OF SOUTH CAROLINA

The Norfolk-based guided missile destroyer Ramage assisted a civilian boat that had lost power 65 nautical miles off South Carolina on Friday.

Around 10:40 a.m., as the Norfolk-based ship was training, lookouts noticed a red flare, according to a news release.

When the Ramage approached the flare, sailors found a small boat, according to the release. Two people aboard the vessel reported they had lost power and were stranded.

Sailors were able to restore the craft’s propulsion, and a Coast Guard escort from Charleston was en route.
