Charles Dickens’ Great-Great Grandson to Perform for First Time in Norfolk
Nauticus to Present “An Evening with Dickens” featuring Gerald Charles Dickens
NORFOLK, Va. – Experience a classic Christmas story brought to life in a whole new way! Gerald Dickens, the great-great grandson of literary master Charles Dickens, will present “An Evening with Dickens” at 6 p.m. on Thursday, November 19 in the Nauticus Theater. This is the first time Dickens has performed his one-man show in Norfolk. The performance — an enactment of A Christmas Carol — ushers in the return of Norfolk’s newest holiday tradition, Dickens’ Christmas Towne, opening November 21 in the Half Moone Cruise & Celebration Center.
Gerald Dickens has worked as an actor, director and producer for many years. In 1993 he created his first one-man show, a theatrical performance of A Christmas Carol inspired by his famous relative’s energetic readings of the 1860s.
“This is a chance for a once in a lifetime brush with literary history,” said Stephen Kirkland, Executive Director of Nauticus. “We were delighted to meet Gerald last year when he was kind enough to assist us with the opening of Dickens’ Christmas Towne. This year the public will be able to see his wonderful version of his great-great grandfather’s Christmas classic.”
“An Evening with Dickens” tickets are $50 per person and include heavy hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar prior to the performance. A book signing will take place at the conclusion of the event. To purchase tickets, visit nauticus.org by Monday, November 16.
