Hampton Roads will show its Navy spirit with an air show, ship tours and a host of other events – many free – during the annual Fleet Week celebration.

Friday

Admirals Hockey Military Appreciation Night – Scope, Norfolk. 7:15 p.m. Tickets $9 with military ID. (757) 640-1212, ext. 23.

Saturday

Ship visit – Guided-missile destroyer Nitze will be moored at Nauticus Pier in Norfolk through Tuesday. Tours Saturday through Monday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Tuesday, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Rumble through the Tunnels – Harbor Park, Norfolk. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Pre-register at Bayside Harley-Davidson. $10 per rider; active duty and retirees ride free. Beach Bash – 31st St. Park, Virginia Beach, 11 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. Chili cook-off, plus entertainment by U.S. Fleet Forces Jazz Band and American Idol contestant Felicia Barton. Free.

Sunday

USO Military Appreciation Day at Virginia Zoo – 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Children’s games, music, inflatable rides, face-painting, clowns and military displays. Free to all DoD card-holders. (757) 764-5232.

Tuesday

Navy Birthday lecture – Vista Point, Norfolk Naval Station, 10 a.m. Speaker is NFL Hall of Famer Bruce Smith. Free and open to all DoD card-holders; seating is limited. To request tickets, call (757) 322-2853.

Wednesday

Navy League breakfast – Virginia Beach Convention Center, registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Speaker is Adm. John C. Harvey Jr., commander, U.S. Fleet Forces. $20 for members, $25 for non-members. Outdoor rec day – Yorktown Naval Weapons Station and Cheatham Annex. Bass fishing tournament, 8K trail run, golf tournament, pig picking and more.
