The amphibious assault ship Nassau will host a 30th anniversary sunset gala celebration Saturday at Norfolk Naval Station. The celebration will bring together members of Nassau’s original crew known as plank owners, as well as other past and present crew members, family, friends and guests, according to a press release.

The ship is named for the Battle of Nassau in the Bahamas in 1776, which was the first amphibious landing staged by American sailors and Marines.
