By Cindy Clayton The Virginian-Pilot © April 14, 2009 The Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group will return this week, bringing 6,000 sailors home from a seven-month deployment, the Navy says. The strike group has been deployed to the Navy’s 5th, 6th and 7th Fleet areas of operation, supporting maritime security, a Navy news release says. The guided-missile cruiser Monterey and guided-missile destroyers Mason and Nitze will return to Norfolk on Friday while the carrier Roosevelt is scheduled to return to Norfolk on Saturday, the Navy says. The fast combat support ship Supply will return to Naval Weapons Station Earle, the Navy says. The guided-missile destroyer The Sullivans, homeported in Mayport, Fla., will return Saturday. The attack submarine Springfield returned to New London Submarine Base in Groton, Conn. in March. The strike group is commanded by Rear Adm. Frank Pandolfe, the release says.
