NORFOLK

The amphibious assault ship Kearsarge is coming home after spending nearly four months supporting a mission to provide humanitarian and civic assistance to Central and South America and the Caribbean.

The Navy said last week that the ship and several embarked units are scheduled to return to Norfolk today.

The Continuing Promise 2008 mission included providing medical, dental, veterinary and civil engineering support to six partner nations.
