The Navy announced today that the guided-missile frigate Carr will return to Norfolk on Tuesday from a five-month deployment.
Unit size: 17 officers, 200 enlisted sailors
Leader: Cmdr. Patrick Kulakowski
Location of deployment: Baltic and Mediterranean seas
Deployed: June 14
Highlights: The Carr deployed to Europe for two months, conducting joint exercises with navies of the Baltic states, including Poland, Finland, Lithuania and Latvia, helping demonstrate the United States’ commitment to its European allies. The ship crossed the Arctic Circle to northern Norway and participated in the annual International Maritime Defense Show in St. Petersburg, Russia.
The Carr then crossed the Atlantic, took on a detachment from Anti-submarine Helicopter Squadron Light 48 and joined operations in the Caribbean with the Navy's Fourth Fleet and the Joint Interagency Task Force South, supporting the interdiction of vessels suspected of smuggling drugs.
The crew helped rescue a stranded Canadian mariner off the Florida Keys last month.
