Two Norfolk-based ships assisted in a rescue involving eight boaters off the coast of North Carolina on Friday morning, according to a news release.

The guided missile frigate Hawes and the Coast Guard cutter Albacore helped the patrol coastal ship Tempest and a Marine Corps helicopter rescue a capsizing

fishing vessel around 9:30 a.m.

The incident occurred about 15 miles off the coast of Cape Lookout, N.C.

The boaters were in good condition and transported back to Fort Macon, N.C., for treatment and evaluation.
