NORFOLK

The last Navy ship is due home Saturday from Haiti, where sailors and Marines have worked since mid-January to provide aid and reconstruction following an earthquake.

The amphibious assault ship Bataan left Norfolk Jan. 14, not long after returning from another deployment.

During its time in Haiti, Navy and Marine helicopters and air cushion landing craft transported nearly 1,000 pallets of relief supplies. The crew also evacuated 97 patients to the ship's medical ward and transported another 524 Haitian patients to other Navy ships and hospitals for care.
