FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Release date: February 25, 2010 Contacts: Beth Bilderback (757) 664-1017 or 419-0848 Beth.Bilderback@norfolk.gov Nauticus to Host NOAA Day Activities include tour of research vessel Bay Hydro II Norfolk, VA – On Saturday, March 6, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Nauticus will honor employees of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and their families at the museum’s annual NOAA Day. NOAA employees will also be on hand to showcase the agency’s offerings to museum visitors. Activities will include public tours of the NOAA R/V Bay Hydro II research vessel, tabletop displays and giveaways and a NOAA film festival in the Living Sea Theater. NOAA Day is open to the public and included in regular Nauticus admission. It is free for all NOAA employees.
NOAA currently has two offices in Nauticus and is a frequent partner with grants, camps, lecture series and other events. Andrew Larkin, NOAA at Nauticus’ Project Manager is pleased with the success of their collaboration. “NOAA Day is a great opportunity for the public to get to ‘know’ NOAA. We appreciate Nauticus honoring the men and women of NOAA who work to serve the nation.” Participating NOAA offices include the Chesapeake Bay Office, Office of Coast Survey, Marine Operations Center Atlantic/NOAA Corps, Monitor National Marine Sanctuary, National Geodetic Survey, National Weather Service Wakefield, NOAA Tides & Currents and Norfolk Regional Center.
